I'm running the latest version of Java Runtime. It appears that ViewPower 2.14 and ViewPowerMini are just resource hungry. I have reverted to ViewPower 2.10 SPI and it seems to be OK. I'm at a loss as to why this works better than the newer versions.

There are two possible causes to the issue you're experiencing:
The software has been updated and it requires a powerful PC with enough processing power in order to run.
If the software is GPU-based, then a fast and powerful GPU is required (required for most 3D apps or CAD based apps)
There is actually a bug in the application that's causing errors (memory leaks are the most common ones).
Typically, you should report this behavior to the developers so they can look at it and fix in case there is a problem.
I have installed this and found a very high CPU usage which slows down my system. It appears that Java Runtime causes this slow down. Is there anything I could do to rectify this high CPU usage (sometimes as high as 60%)?

The first thing I recommend doing is to replace or upgrade the Java Runtime. You can do this using the link below. Download the installer and then overwrite your current installation. Although this is not recommended, you could try it, but if problems appears, remove the old one and then install the new one.
Secondly, it might be possible that ViewPowerMini is a actually a resource hungry product that needs additional processing power than a normal application in which case it's a normal thing.
Version 1.0 is not compatible with Windows 10, but the latest version 1.01 SP1 was updated a month ago thus increasing the support for operating system to the following ones: Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, Windows 2000 (32-bit), Windows Server 2003, 2008, SBS 2011, 2012 (32-bit and 64-bit).
As you can see, the Windows 10 version is listed among the other ones.
